A Summer Job that

PREPARES YOUR STUDENT FOR LIFE

Camp of Champions USA

There are more summertime options than ever for high school and college students - summer sports, internships and college credits, volunteering for community service, and still finding time to enjoy the last few summers before entering adulthood. As a parent, how are you helping your child navigate all their choices for summer break?

When it comes to summer jobs for students, you might find a place that is geared toward working with teenagers, provides a meaningful experience, trains them for the future, and connects them with like-minded friends. However, those things are rarely a first-priority for business.

At Camp of Champions USA, we’ve designed our summer positions specifically for high school & college students. Joining our team means your student will get a summer full of fun, intentional leadership development, and consistent time with others to grow in their faith.

Parents of Current Staff Members:

We know there is a good chance Camp of Champions is your son or daughter’s first official job. That probably means that you also have questions about what working at Camp will look like or how you can help your staff member be successful. We are here to help answer some of the questions you might want answers to!

Frequently Asked Questions from Staff Parents

  • It’s okay if your staff member can only work at one location. We typically recommend staff to list their availability for 2-3 locations however, that is not required. Only being able to work at one location might result in your staff member getting scheduled less than others based on availability. They will have a chance to let us know their availability when they fill out the Staff Info Form.

  • When your staff member is hired, they will receive a letter called “letter of intent to hire” sent to the email we have on file for them. This letter should have all of the information needed from Camp’s end for your student to receive the work permit. They will need to print off the “letter of intent to hire” and take it to their school administration office to begin the process of obtaining a work permit. If your staff member is homeschooled, you will need to contact your Regional Office of Education to schedule an appointment to receive your work permit. (https://www.peoriaroe.org/o/peoria-roe/page/work-permits) By law, Camp of Champions cannot submit paperwork for a work permit on your staff member’s behalf.

  • Each position has slightly different weeks we ask to be committed to Camp.

    • Activity Assistants and Counselors are expected to work at least 5 weeks of the summer (plus 2-3 days of staff training)

    • Team Leads are expected to work for at least 8 weeks of the summer (plus 2-3 days of staff training)

    • Assistant Directors and Site Directors are required to work 10-12 weeks of the summer (plus 1 week of staff training)

Please note: If your staff member is available for more weeks than is required for their position, there will be opportunities to work additional weeks. We are flexible to work around their personal schedule, however, we need to know in advance to approve any time off.

  • Staff members’ schedules are able to be seen in the When I Work App or website. We don’t recommend you creating your own account, as only current employees may see their schedules. Healthy communication with your staff member about their schedule will create the best environment for staying up to date with when they work.

  • We schedule our staff by the week, so we give preference to scheduling staff that can work the whole week whenever possible (consistency is a priority for building relationships with campers).

We try to be pretty flexible and understanding, however, we do want your staff member to see this as a job and take it seriously. We ask that time off requests be made at least two weeks in advance.

    * IF your staff member is sick and can't make it to work, they should NOT put in a time off request. For sickness, we ask that they either text, email or call Megan to let us know.

  • We ask that staff members are fully engaged with campers by the time that their shift starts. For most staff members, this means arriving five to ten minutes early to drop their lunch off in the staff office and head back outside to start the day with campers.
